In the deciding match, sophomore Henrik Wiersholm of Kirkland, Wash., downed Christian Seraphim 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 on Court 6. Altamirano, a sophomore, outclassed Jon Ho 6-2, 6-3 on Court 3. Altamirano and J.C. Aragone lost the deciding doubles match 7-6 on Court 3.
The top-ranked Cavaliers (7-0), the reigning NCAA champions, will face fifth-seeded Texas Christian (5-1) in the semifinals. The Horned Frogs nipped fourth-seeded USC 4-3.
Freshman Alex Rybakov won the clincher for Texas Christian, beating Max de Vroome 6-7, 7-5, 7-6 on Court 2. USC freshman Jake DeVine of Los Altos Hills in the San Francisco Bay Area lost to Guillermo Nunez 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 on Court 3.
No. 3 seed North Carolina will meet No. 7 UCLA in the other semifinal. The Tar Heels (7-0) defeated No. 6 Ohio State 4-2, and the Bruins (7-1) upset No. 2 Texas A&M 4-2.
Mackenzie McDonald, a junior from Piedmont in the Bay Area, and Martin Redlicki won at No. 1 doubles to help UCLA win the doubles point.
McDonald, ranked only 34th in singles after missing a month with a broken wrist, led No. 8 Arthur Rinderknech 4-6, 7-6, 3-0 on Court 1 when their match was abandoned.
UCLA's Logan Staggs, a sophomore from Tracy, lost to Jackson Withrow 6-3, 6-2 on Court 5.
