Sam Riffice of Roseville in the Sacramento area was injured in the United States' 2-1 victory over Brazil today in the Junior Davis Cup in Madrid.
Riffice, 16, retired with a hamstring injury at 1-6, 4-3 against Gabriel Decamps in No. 1 singles.
The U.S. lost its No. 2 singles player, Gianni Ross, last week because of illness. He was replaced by Patrick Kypson, who won today in singles and doubles (with Vasil Kirkov).
The third-seeded United States is scheduled to play
eighth-seeded Japan on Thursday for a berth in the semifinals. Japan
beat Spain 2-1.
